That's great!

The ones I have seen looked awfully nice.

Have you been mostly silver?

Or have you been doing Krands? I find the eagles prettier than the Krands.

Me likes trade rounds, Eagles and bars ... all silver.

I did buy a few Mexican gold coins (1/10 oz) a couple years ago but this is my first one ounce gold coin.

woohoo:birthday: congrats.

When I got my first ouncer, i felt the same way......almost five hundred stinkin' dollars for one......

then as you accumulate more and more, you realise exactly how worthless frn's are, and you can't wait to trade as much stacked up funny money for the good stuff.

paper ain't sheeeeeit. show me the gold, give me the gold.

Halo,

That was hillarious. Amazing how little fiat is worth.

Eagles are nice, although the silver eagle design is much better looking than the gold one. The gold eagle obverse design is weak, imo.

I actually like the KRands better, plus they have that throw-back retro Miami Vice thingie going for 'em.

Thanks for contributing, you  you. Why not!

Actually it was a combination of summer lows in PMs and a Gene Hackman movie I watched this week, entitled _HEIST_ .

His partner asked him: What makes the world go round ?

Gene says: Gold.

His partner then says: What about love ?

Gene says: Yeah, love makes the world go round. Love of Gold.

Something I like more about the gold eagles.

They have a prettier color and while the obverse is weak, the face is nice. IMHO. They have this nice soft look.

Krands are a little bright and brassy to me, compared to the eagles.

Re: BREAKING NEWS .... bought my first gold Eagle today !

By "BREAKING NEWS" I assume you meant you bought your first gold coin and now you are broke! :D

Welcome to the club - I used to only buy gold, starting as far back as 1979 - paid about $350 or so for it - so $600-650 seems expensive to me..........((sold at $820.....just started re-buying gold and silver beginning of this year.......))

Then I remember - when gold hit $850 back then, its high, if you adjust for inflation, it would be $1600 give or take now - so, as others have said - gold is not expensive, fiat money has become almost as worth as much as toilet paper........tho toilet paper might have more value on some levels....

Buy lots more gold and silver before the rest of the world catches on cause it WILL hit $850.....$1000....$1600....and maybe even $3000 in the next couple of years.

I watched it all before in 1979-80...its deja vu time!

You'll be glad you bought it!!

Cheers!

Ho

Hell yeah I'm broke .... that and two tubes of trade rounds should break any blue collar working man.

That's okay, my kids school clothes and supplies are bought, roofs over my head and dinner's in the oven.

Congrats Halo!

I want to buy a couple of the new buffalo's but man that is a lot of scratch. And I think I have to buy a minimum of 1-3 at one time. I can't really afford the proof unless I just buy one proof from the mint instead of a couple of the bullion. What do you folks think - get a buffalo from the mint or buy a couple buf bullion?

depends what type collector you are - if you're into numismatics, _maybe_ the proof.

Me, I would go for the bullion _grin_

Buy a buffalo from local dealer where you can inspect the merch before purchase. JoeJewler clued us in to some significant quality control issues. Take a good long hard look at it before you buy.

My favorite is the Pamp Suisse 1 Oz gold ingot. A very beautiful design.

That's the main reason I haven't got excited about any buffaloes.

I have a half-dozen people I have helped get into PMs and I tell them two thigns - one is that, once you hold real gold in your hands (they all say its heavier than they expected) you will come to love it......

And two, for some reason, once you have your gold onhand, you sleep better at nights, I assume cause you know regardless of what the markets or the world does while you are sleeping, you have access to "real" moeny close at hand.

Oddly, they all seem to agree - and I wondered if it was cause I had told them they would - you just confirmed for me, its more than the power of suggestion.

My local dealer doesn't carry much Au and no buffalos. He bought a proff for himself but if I bought from him he would be buying from another dealer and adding his cut o I might as well use APMEX or CNI.

Congrats! :congrats::party: :yippee: :party30::five:

How many times have you taken it out and stared at it so far? (Or are you still out standing by your mailbox waiting for it? :D)

I only have one two 1-ounce gold coins, myself: an eagle and a St. Gaudens. The SG has sentimental value, and I won't sell it, so I don't really count it as part of the stash. The rest of my gold is in 1/10s and a few 1/20s and foreign coins (I do like the Swiss and French francs), and there's precious few of those! I have mostly silver, but I have to say that it's the gold I love. Unfortunately, I can barely afford the silver, let alone the gold!

Congrats. Good Job. Welcome to your new addiction. :afraid:

Just got a 42" LCD TV and hubby pointed out that is cost equivalent to 2 gold coins. Wow, didn't realize how much fiat you needed to buy a TV. Next year it will take only 1 gold coin for the same TV. :smokin:

David Mamet word-juggling.

That movie has one of my favorite lines, uttered by Danny DeVito's character:

"Everybody needs money. That's why they call it 'money.'"

Good thread. But can we now agree to ban the word BREAKING from thread titles?

they will probably send you a "used"/scratched eagle. always buy in person I say.

Re: BREAKING NEWS .... bought my first gold Eagle today !

The worst thing about the american eagles IMO is that they have a dollar value stated on them. I get paranoid thinking that one day the govt is going to try to force me to trade my 1 oz coin for $50. I guess that's why I have guns too :) I do have a good percentage of my gold in 1/10 oz eagles as it seems to be the most available small denomination gold.

Anybody find a better deal than this today?
